On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over her alleged anger at a man chanting 'Jai Shri Ram' and the CPI(M) on Sitaram Yechury's comments against Lord Ram.

Addressing poll rally in West Bengal, the Prime Minister said: "The situation is so grave that Mamata didi is sending those to jail who are raising Jai Shri Ram slogans. Please tell Didi, Lord Ram is our inspiration, Lord Ram is Bhakti. None can stand in front of Ram ji. Your arrogance will also break, Didi. CPM insulted Mahabharata and Ramayana, insulting our Mahabharata and Ramayana is their fashion now. But Lord Ram is within us. We believe in Ram Bhakti and Bharat Bhakti. He is an inspiration."

On Sunday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had allegedly raged at some people who shouted chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ at her convoy while it was on the way to Chandrakona in West Bengal's Midnapore district.

Following the incident, BJP West Bengal shared a video of the incident. In it, as the cars stopped and the West Bengal CM stepped out, she is seen telling the men that they must not run away, and face her instead.

Last week, Sitaram Yechury had attacked the BJP for allegedly fragmenting the society for votes through its divisive policies, branding religious epics Ramayana and Mahabharata as 'specimens of Hindu violence'.

"Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur said that Hindus don't believe in violence. Many kings and principalities have fought battles in the country. Even the Ramayana and Mahabharata are also filled with instances of violence. Being a pracharak, you narrate the epics but still claim Hindus can't be violent? What is the logic behind saying there is a religion which engages in violence & we Hindus don't," he had said.
