As the last leg of the Lok Sabha elections approach, Trinamool chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee held a 'padyatra' (roadshow) in a show of Trinamool strength from Beliaghata to Shyambazar in Kolkata. Her roadshow comes a day after violence struck BJP chief Amit Shah's roadshow in Kolkata.
With Banerjee leading her roadshow, Police and TMC workers surrounded her and media was not allowed to interact with her. However, Republic TV questioned her on the poll-violence, which went unanswered.
"There are allegations on you that you instigated violence, and kill the essence of democracy. What do you want to say?" asked Republic TV reporter.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, speaking in the press conference, BJP chief Amit Shah said: "Till now 6 phases are done and there was no poll violence reported from anywhere in the country but Bengal. I want to tell Mamata didi that you are contesting on seats only in Bengal while the BJP is fighting in all the states over the country, if we were inciting violence then it would be everywhere around the country."
Brushing off the allegations by Trinamool that the statue of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was vandalised by 'BJP goons', Shah said showing a picture of the college premises: "The gate was intact after the clash. If the gate was intact after the clash, then the allegation by Trinamool is wrong. Stones were pelted from inside the campus by the Trinamool, we were outside the campus, how would anyone go inside? The Trinamool did it on purpose in their greed to seek votes. BJP workers obviously would not be able to secure the key. The statue was vandalized by the Trinamool goons only for votes."
Addressing a poll rally in Basirhat West Bengal, PM Modi said: "Didi's goons are out in open to cause destruction with bullet and bombs. Yesterday, the entire country saw the pictures of all that happened in Kolkata. Didi is worried after seeing the BJP wave in Bengal, and therefore she has stooped down to such levels. Didi had declared two days ago that she will take the revenge of every inch. Within an hour, BJP chief bhai Amit Shah Ji was attacked, she tried to scare us by spreading violence in the roadshow of Amit Shah. After the violence, the kind of politics you and your party is doing, the University students are exposing your conspiracy."
