Wayanad Lok Sabha Election 2024 Result LIVE: All eyes were on Kerala's Wayanad seat as former Congress president Rahul Gandhi was seeking reelection from this parliamentary constituency in Lok Sabha election 2024. Rahul Gandhi registered one sided victory from Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, on Tuesday, defeating his nearest rival CPI leader Annie Raja by over 3,64,000 votes. Rahul Gandhi garnered 6,47,445 votes, while Annie Raja got 2,83, 023 seats. BJP state chief K Surendran stood at distant third with just 1,41,045 votes.
Reacting on his victory, Rahul Gandhi said, "I have won from Rae Bareli and Wayanad and I thank the voters. I need to decide which seat I will retain. I haven't decided yet."
The Wayanad seat is witnessing a three-way contest between Congress, BJP and the Left. BJP has pitted its state president K Surendran against Rahul Gandhi. Part of Congress-led INDI alliance, CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front, has fielded senior CPI leader Annie Raja from the Wayanad constituency. The INDI parties have considered it a “friendly fight”.
Rahul Gandhi is also contesting from Uttar Pradesh's Rae Bareli seat apart from Wayanad. Raebareli was vacated after sitting MP Sonia Gandhi entered the Parliament through Rajya Sabha route. In 2019, Rahul Gandhi contested from Wayanad for the first time, in addition to his traditional constituency of Amethi. He won Wayanad for the Congress, but lost Amethi to BJP leader and Union Minister Smriti Irani.
In 2019, Rahul Gandhi garnered 64 per cent vote share in Wayanad. However, this time, exit polls have predicted a downfall in his voteshare this time.
