Playing different kinds of characters is a very difficult task that many actors have to overcome. This is especially true for playing characters of a different culture because they may know little about it. But still, talented actors easily manage to convince the audience that they are the characters and not themselves, the celebrities. For actors to play roles from different cultures can be a task. It requires knowledge about the culture, what they wear, how they greet one another, and many more nuances. Bollywood has been doing this for a long time now. Shah Rukh Khan - Shekhar Subramaniam

Shah Rukh Khan was seen playing the role of Shekhar Subramaniam in the film Ra.One. Shah Rukh Khan is from an Islamic middle-class Indian family in New Delhi and was playing the role of a very smart South-Indian game developer working at  Barron Industries. He perfected their accent and pronunciation which made him seem like a natural actor in the film. 

Paresh Rawal - Baburao Apte

Paresh Rawal was seen playing the role of Baburao Apte in the film, Hera Pheri. He is from a Gujarati Brahmin family but played the role of a Maharashtrian whose presence was felt throughout the film. He reportedly practised for a good while to get the Maharashtrian accent perfect. His character is very famous and the film is considered among one of the funniest films in Bollywood.

Alia Bhatt - Ananya Swaminathan

Alia Bhatt was seen playing the role of a South Indian girl, Ananya Swaminathan, in the film 2 States. The story is all about a college couple who overcome family and cultural problems in order to get married.  Alia Bhatt comes from a mixed lineage of Kashmiri, German and Gujarati cultures.

Salman Khan - Pawan Kumar Chaturvedi

Salman Khan was seen playing the role of Pawan Kumar Chaturvedi in his famous film Bajrangi Bhaijaan. In the film he was a very strict Brahmin. Salman Khan hails from the Sunni sect but reportedly identifies as both Hindu as well as Muslim. 

John Abraham - Manya Surve

Here, John was seen playing the role of a fierce gangster, Manya Surve, who is a typical Maharashtrian man. John had to learn Marathi and also deliver a number of Marathi lines in the film Shootout At Wadala. He is a Syrian Christian from Aluva, Kerala and his mother, Firoza Irani, is Parsi.
