Dulquer Salmaan is the actor who will be making his debut in the Bollywood film ‘Karwaan’. However, this is not his first film. The actor has featured in more than 25 films in his six-year career, with a State-Award for the Best Actor to his honour. Before the release of ‘Karwaan’ on August 3, the actor has already bagged his second Bollywood film the ‘Zoya Factor’ opposite Sonam Kapoor. 1. Ustad Hotel (Malayalam)
This was Dulquer Salmaan’s second film and the film that shot him to fame. Directed by Anwar Rasheed, the film also starred Nithya Menen and Tilakan in pivotal roles. The film is about a young man named Faizal, known as Faizi (Dulquer Salmaan) who aspires to become a chef. WIthout the knowledge of his father, he studies as a chef in Switzerland. When his father comes to know about the fact he takes away his passport and prevents him from taking his job in the UK. As his relationship with his father hits the rock he moves to Kozhikode (a place in Kerala) to work as a cook in a small restaurant by the beach which is owned by his grandfather. From there he learns the true meaning of his profession and the story follows.
2. Bangalore Days (Malayalam)
‘Bangalore Days’ is till date the best movie of Malayalam industry. It is the story of three cousins from Kerala who reach Bangalore for three different reasons and life changes for them. Dulquer plays the role of a bike enthusiast who lives life on his terms and his not the fond child of the family owing to his behavior. The film is directed and written by Anjali Menon and has an ensemble cast including Nivin Pauly, Nazriya Nazim, Fahadh Fazil, Parvathy, Isha Talwar and Nithya Menen.
3. Charlie (Malayalam)
'Charlie' released in 2015 and gave Dulquer his first State Award. It is a Malayalam romantic-drama starring DQ and Parvathy. In the film, Parvathy runs away from home to escape from marriage and ends up in a messy rented room. She finds a graphic novel story made by the former owner of the house and hunts down the characters of the film to know about the rest of the story and to find the creator of the graphic- Charlie (Dulquer Salmaan)- who is a carefree vagabond. The story emphasizes the nature of Charlie and how the lead pair meets, in the end, as they set off on a new journey together.
4. Kammatipadam (Malayalam)
In this 2016 film, Dulquer plays a Hindu boy who was raised in Kammatipadum, a slum in Ernakulam in Kerala which is dominated by Dalits. It focuses on how the Dalit community was forced to give up their lands to real-estate mafias and how modern urbanization of Kochi metro-city took place over the plight of the Dalits.
5. 100 Days of love (Malayalam)
This 2015 Malayalam romantic comedy should be a must watch on your movie list. Salmaan essays the character of Balan K Nair, who works as a reporter in a daily based in Bangalore. Just as he begins to feel he is a loser, he finds love and begins to chase her. In between ensues a series of comical situations and at the same time, you get to see an innocent romantic story. The film is directed by debutant Januse Mohammed Majeed.
