According to reports, the BMC recently issued a public notice to go ahead with cutting the tree and that any suggestions or objections to it could be submitted to them. However, environmental activists have been fuming as they feel the tree neither affects the vehicular nor the pedestrian movement. Some of the activists felt that the owner might have wanted it cut since it is obstructing their view, but thought the BMC should have rejected the proposal outright.

The building in suburban Khar has been leased out to a food products store. However, a professional associated with the building has stated that the tree posed a safety issue as it affects the movement of vehicles in emergency situations, that could put its 200-odd workers at a risk.

It is not clear yet if Salman Khan’s family or the company on a lease approached the BMC to request permission for cutting the tree.

Last year,in June, another property of the actor in Panvel had landed in a row when the Maharashtra forest department had sent a notice to him and his family members for 'illegal’ construction.

The notice was sent after an objection was raised by another Panvel resident. It was also addressed to the other members of the family like his sisters Alvira and Arpita, brothers Arbaaz and Sohail and mother Helen then. The property, like his residence in Bandra, is popular as the actor usually hosts his star-sudded birthday parties at the venue.

Even Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar had stated that the notice was issued following the objections. He had added that if the necessary proof denying the accusations is produced, then no action is taken.

That time, Salman’s father Salim Khan had denied there being any ‘illegal’ construction.
