Bollywood actor Aamir Khan is all set to bring the Indian epic drama 'Mahabharat' on the silver screen. As per media reports, he had expressed his desire to make a film on the Indian epic long ago, however, nothing was confirmed back then. Media reports previously suggested that the 'Secret Superstar' actor will be roped for the upcoming Rakesh Sharma biopic 'Saare Jahaan Se Achcha', which was then titled 'Salute'. However, the actor recently backed off the film and Shah Rukh Khan was signed for the film instead.

As per media reports, Aamir Khan is busy with his upcoming venture 'Mahabharat' and is working hard on it after 'Thugs of Hindostan' tanked at the box office.  At the 2nd edition of Cinestaan India's Storyteller Script Contest 2018, the actor reportedly said that he thinks that 'Saare Jahaan Se Achcha' is a great and wonderful script and he feels sad that he will not able to do it. He further stated that he is the one who called up Shah Rukh and suggested him to hear out the script once.

The actor further revealed that he is a huge fan of Rakesh Sharma and that it is a wonderful story. However, the actor didn't mention the reason he backed off the film but the writer of 'Saare Jahaan Se Achcha' Anjum Rajabali revealed, that the Aamir is consumed with a larger sort of project called 'Mahabharat' and that's the reason he decided to back out of the film.

Moreover, during the promotions of 'Thugs of Hindostan' Aamir reportedly also disclosed that he had a discussion with director Shakun Batra about a biopic on Indian godman Osho, but again nothing is concrete about the making.

Aamir Khan was recently featured in Vijay Krishna Acharya's 'Thugs of Hindostan' which premiered on November 8, 2018. The film also starred  Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh in the lead roles.

Produced by Yash Raj Films, 'Thugs Of Hindostan' is an adaptation from a Philip Meadows Taylor's 1839 novel titled 'Confessions Of A Thug'. The period drama set in the backdrop of the pre-Independence era tells the story of a group of 'thugs' who rebel against the British rule. Despite critical reviews, the film managed to be successful at the box office by crossing the 100 crore mark.
