Amitabh Bachchan has declared that it is Africa that has actually won the World Cup after France's final win against Croatia on Sunday night.

Taking to Twitter, the Bollywood megastar, who has been in Russia to attend the final stages of the showpiece football tournament, first hailed France's win. He congratulated the European nation on the triumph, congratulated runners-up Croatia for 'winning hearts' and congratulated Russia for hosting a "most fantastic World Cup".

For the hosts, he highlighted the organisation of the World Cup as being systematic, efficient, secure and filled with incredible hospitality and smiling faces.

However, somebody wrote to Big-B, telling him about the diversity in the French team, and contributing that 16 of the 23-man France squad are from families that recently immigrated to France. The social media user hailed this fact, writing, "It's amazing how immigrants can change culture", perhaps in reference to the global debate around migration and immigrants that has broken out in Europe and the US over the last few years.

Taking a cue from this, Amitabh Bachchan wrote:

"Thats it then Africa won the World Cup 2018"

He then sought to make the declaration official, reiterating:

At least five members of France's starting line-up, including two of the goalscorers, Kylian Mbappe and Paul Pogba, have African descent. Multiculturalism has been a big part of French football, with stars of the 1998 World Cup winning side, including final superstar Zinedine Zidane, tracing back African descent.

The 2018 World Cup final: France defeated first-time finalists in Moscow on Sunday night to win their second World Cup. Didier Deschamps' side took the lead via a Mario Mandzukic own goal but Croatia equalised via Ivan Perisic. Following that, however, France benefited from a VAR-awarded penalty, followed by two stunning goals by Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe. Mandzukic made amends for his earlier own goal by scoring on the right side of the field due to an error by French keeper Hugo Lloris, but it wasn't enough as France ran out 4-2 winners.
