On Friday, Total Dhamaal, starring Madhuri Dixit, Anil Kapoor, Arshad Warsi and Riteish Deshmukh, among others, hit the theatres. So, the comedian posted a photo from his episode and captioned it as: “Congratulations @ajaydevgn paji @AnilKapoor sir @MadhuriDixit mam @Riteishd n the entire team of #TotalDhamaal hearing great reviews about the movie.. will watch it soon.”

To this, Ajay trolled the comedian in jest and commented by saying: “Tu picture dekh and for a change dusron ke jokes pe bhi has le.. sirf apne jokes pe hasta rehta hai hamesha!”

Directed by Indra Kumar, Total Dhamaal is the third instalment of the Dhamaal series and features Ajay Devgn for the first time. Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit also have come together for the film after 17 years. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the first day box-office collection. He wrote: "#TotalDhamaal - non-holiday release - creates dhamaal on Day 1... Biz multiplies as day progresses... Mass circuits rocking... Metros/plexes witness upward trend... Biz should grow on Day 2 and contribute to a big total over the weekend... Fri ₹ 16.50 cr. India biz. Why choose non-holiday as release date? Why release during examination period?A section of the industry was doubtful. But the makers of #TotalDhamaal stuck to their decision... And the audience verdict says it all... Big growth on *Day 2* indicates public is in ❤️ with #Dhamaal. [sic]"

While the movie failed to impress the critics, the majority of the audience is showering praises. From calling it 'hilarious', 'entertaining', 'a laugh riot', the movie received some positive response but also got some negative feedback as some called it a 'waste of time'.

Talking to Press Trust of India (PTI), Ajay Devgn commented on how people call it a 'brainless comedy': “I don’t know why they say it is brainless. It is not easy to make people laugh. Today in our country or all over the world, comedians are the biggest stars. Like here in India, we have Kapil Sharma. It needs intelligence to make people laugh, you just can’t make faces and make people laugh".
