With Akshay Kumar’s ‘Gold’ entering the prestigious Rs. 100 crore club, the actor achieved the second spot for having the highest number of films in the Rs. 100 crore club. ‘Gold’ became his ninth film to surpass the Rs. 100 crore mark. The ‘Padman’ actor is right behind Salman Khan who tops the list and has 13 films in the Rs. 100 crore club. The ‘Race 3’ star has been an undefeatable actor at the box office, owing to his popularity among the masses.

Despite ‘Gold’ clashing with John Abraham’s ‘Satyamev Jayate’, the film had a good opening at the box-office. The film that released on August 15 and collected around Rs 25 crores on day 1. It had a slow second week but managed to reach the Rs 100 crore mark within 13 days of release. Akshay's other films that entered the Rs. 100 crore club are 'Housefull 2', 'Rowdy Rathore', 'Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty', 'Airlift', 'Housefull 3', 'Rustom', 'Jolly LLB 2 'and 'Toilet Ek Prem Katha'.

‘Gold’ helmed by Reema Kagti is a sports drama that traces the journey of a free India winning its first gold medal at the Olympics. The film is set in the period from 1936 to 1948. In 1948, Independent India’s hockey team won its first gold medal after facing several difficulties. The film focuses on how the team is united and determined to win the medal and all the hard work that went in to prepare the team to be able to achieve their goal at the Olympics.

Before 'Gold', Akshay Kumar was seen in 'Padman' that released in February 2018. Though the film did not cross the Rs. 100 crore mark, it was appreciated for its concept and an attempt to bring about change. The actor will be seen next in one of the most-awaited films of the year- '2.0'. It is the sequel to the 2010 film 'Robot' starring superstar Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai. In the sequel that is slated to release on November 29, Akshay Kumar will be playing the antagonist, while Amy Jackson will be playing the female lead. Recently, a video of the making went viral on the internet and sent fans of the film in a frenzy.
