Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar who is known for his active social engagements, recently came forward to advocate for children's rights. The actor took to social media and shared a moving post to highlight how thousands of children in the country are deprived of one time meal a day.

Akshay Kumar shared a throwback picture of himself from his boyhood on social media where he can be seen cycling. In the post, Akshay talked about how while growing up he was always inclined towards sports and how his mother ensured he got nutritious home-cooked meals to fuel his passion.

Then, the 'Kesari' actor compared it to the conditions of 11,72,604 poor children in the country who are deprived of the basic right an asked 'why the gap'. Akshay Kumar also tagged in his 'Mission Mangal' co-stars Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, and others in the initiative.

Akshay Kumar's inclination towards social awareness films

Akshay Kumar inclination towards social awareness films is evident. Over the past few years, the actor has done a number of films which highlights several social issues. From 'Oh My God' to 'Padman' to 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' Akshay Kumar has come back with back-to-back movies based on a social cause.

Mission Mangal

Akshay Kumar's latest outing 'Mission Mangal' which emerged as his biggest opener, celebrates the success of ISRO's Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) which made India the first country to launch its satellite in Mars' orbit in the first go. As per media reports, the  Akshay Kumar starrer has grossed over Rs. 100 crores at the Box office within a week of its release.

Twinkle Khanna joins 'why the gap' initiative

Meanwhile, Akshay's wife actor turned author Twinkle Khanna also came forward to join the 'why the gap' initiative advocating for deprived children. Sharing a throwback picture from her school days, Twinkle Khanna talked about how academics played an important role in making her an independent woman and highlighted how 2 out of 5 girls in India still don’t complete schooling.

Twinkle Khanna was the one to nominate husband Akshay Kumar in the first place. In the post, she tagged Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor, and Tahira Kashyap Khurrana and asked them to come forward and share their childhood memories.
