Akshay Kumar’s life-story about rising from rags to riches has inspired millions of his fans to pursue their dreams. The actor grew up playing in the lanes of Chandni Chowk, Old Delhi. It took blood, sweat and tears to achieve stardom he has. Sometimes an actor rejects a film because of issues in schedule or date or dislikes for the role or character. Here are a few films blockbuster films that Akshay Kumar turned down.

1. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013)

The 2013 biographical sports movie starred Farhan Akhtar and Sonam Kapoor in the lead roles. Based on the life of Olympian Milkha Singh, Akshay Kumar turned down the project offer. This Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra directorial went ahead to become the sixth highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2013 in India and worldwide. Farhan Akhtar’s phenomenal performance in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag was appreciated by the audience and critics alike.

2. Baazigar (1993)

Inspired by an English movie A Kiss Before Dying, Baazigar was Shah Rukh Khan’s breakthrough movie. The film was earlier offered to Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar, but both rejected it because of the negative character. The anti-hero was starred opposite Shilpa Shetty and Kajol and also earned Filmfare Award for Best Actor for Baazigar. Years later, Akshay Kumar played a negative role in Baazigar director duo Abbas-Mustan’s Ajnabee

3. Race ( 2008)

Akshay Kumar was the first choice for Abbas-Mustan’s action thriller film Race. The movie starring an ensemble cast of Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna. Anil Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Katrina Kaif and Sameera Reddy was the fourth highest-grossing film of the year 2008. Two sequels of Race were released Race 2 in 2013 and Race 3 in 2018. Kumar rejected the movie for unknown reasons.

4. Character Dheela Hai

The iconic song was originally written and composed for Akshay Kumar starrer Khatta Meetha but was turned down. Anees Bazmee took the popular song for Salman Khan’s Ready. Sallu Bhai’s item number was a treat for ears. The song Character Dheela Hai starring Zarine Khan was a chartbuster hit.
