AL Vijay announces Jayalalilthaa biopic titled 'Thalaivi' on her 71st birth anniversary

On the 71st birth anniversary of Jayalalithaa on Sunday, February 24, filmmaker AL Vijay announced that he will be making a biopic on the late politician that has been titled 'Thalaivi'.

Actress turned politician Jayaram Jayalalithaa who served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for over fourteen years before she died in 2016, is one of the most celebrated personalities. On her 71st birth anniversary on Sunday, February 24, filmmaker AL Vijay announced that he will be making a biopic on the late politician and the film is titled 'Thalaivi'. 

As per reports, opening up about the project during a recent media interaction, Vijay said that he is glad to have been offered with the opportunity to deliver an honest biopic on the iconic political figure.

According to media reports, the film will be scripted by ace writer Vijayendra Prasad, who has previously penned ventures like 'Baahubali' and 'Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi'. It will be simultaneously shot in three Indian languages- Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi.  Reportedly, the makers have obtained the NOC (No Objection Certificate) from Mr Deepak, the nephew of Jayalalithaa claiming that 'Thalaivi' is the 'official biopic' on the politician. However, they are yet to announce the cast of the film.

Talking about the same, Vijay and team reportedly said that they wanted to take necessary permission to keep away from controversies. They have been proceeding with their research work and said that they will begin with shooting shortly. As per media reports, the production team has been working on the project for nine months.

Post the demise of Jayalalithaa, many filmmakers have announced biopics based on her life. Last year, director Priyadarshini announced a biopic on the late politician and titled it 'The Iron Lady'. It stars Nithya Menen and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in the lead roles.
