Protests ensued at Aarey colony

The Bombay High Court on October 4 refused to announce the Aarey colony a forest. It further declined all the four petitions against the felling of trees. Protests in the colony ensued after the authorities from Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) allegedly started axing the trees on the same day after the Bombay High Court's dismissal of all the petitions challenging the felling of trees. However, videos of the trees being cut at Aarey surfaced on social media which led to locals gathering at the forest as a sign of protest. According to sources, police had to resort to lathi-charge to stop the protests.
