Indian film industry's #MeToo movement has been one of the most historic events that the country has seen in recent times. With celebrities and masses calling out their accusers on social media, this movement has gained momentum and how. Something that started with Tanushree Dutta posing allegations of sexual harassment on veteran actor Nana Patekar on the sets of their 2008 film 'Horn Ok Pleasss' has now raked in the attention of Bollywood big-wigs who have come out in the open to support the initiative.
In the light of the recent events, Producer Vinta Nanda accused veteran actor Alok Nath of rape and brutality adding that it took her 19 years to break her silence. She also stated that back then when she tried to report the incident, people asked her to stay mum. The producer then took a press conference where she poured her heart out and gave an insight into what went down.
In the recent state of affairs, Alok Nath has filed a Civil Defamation Suit against Vinta Nanda seeking a public apology and ₹1. Speaking to the media, Alok Nath's lawyer said, "Vinta Nanda is not making any demand. We have filed a criminal case before the city civil court and Alok Nath has asked ₹ 1, which has been asked just for the sake of penalty." The lawyer further stated that Vinta Nanda should apologise before the society, for defaming his client. The case will be heard in the month of November, while the civil suit will be followed up within a week.
Previously, Alok Nath on the contrary neither accepted or denied the allegations and waited for a discussion with his lawyer to speak further on the matter. Post Vinta's allegations, Cine And TV Artistes' Association aka CINTAA decided to send a show and cause notice to the 'Sonu Ki Titu Ki Sweety' actor to which the actor reportedly replied to the film bodies and asked them to withdraw the cases and to not act just based on press reports and social media. A reply sent by the actor's lawyer Ashok Saraogi, revealed that the office of the film had received some complaints in writing, but till date no such complaint has been received by actor Alok Nath.
Further, Nath has also asked the associations to furnish the details of the complaint, as reported. The matter has not been reported to the police or the court and so the actor's legal team has requested the association to withdraw their show cause notice. Earlier, Alok Nath and his wife Ashu have also filed a defamation case against writer-producer Vinta Nanda for alleging that Nath sexually harassed and raped her 19 years back.
