As former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee died at the age of 93 on Thursday, several Bollywood stars and eminent personalities paid homage to the iconic leader. Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan also lamented the death of the 'Bharat Ratna' awardee. The Bollywood icon took to Twitter and paid an emotional tribute to former PM Vajpayee. He marked him an eminent poet and excellent orator.
The '102-Not-Out' actor who is also an active blogger, remembered the former Prime Minister whose birthday is marked as Good Governance Day.
"A stalwart, a poet, a writer an enlightened mind, a compassionate being leaves this world and we mourn his passing. He was an admirer of my Father and his works and there were many an occasion when I would be present at their meetings .." read the excerpt from Amitabh Bachchan's blog, which was posted on Thursday night.
In his writing, the actor opened up about the bond shared by their families. Bachchan said that his father knew Atal Bihari Vajpayee since he was a student. He also talked about an occasion where his father heard Atal Bihari Vajpayee speak and was very impressed by his oratory skills. Describing the incident Bachchan wrote," there was a debate at an institution which was being presided over by my Father .. Atalji was one of the speakers for the debate, but had not shown up within the specified time .. he did eventually and pleaded with my Father that his delay was due to the fact that there was a delay in the train he was travelling in .. the organizers were not permitting him to participate, but my Father put all aside and called him up to speak .. Atalji was spectacular as always and gained much praise .."
The 'Sholay' star further stated that even after Atal Bihari Vajpayee took up his role as a political leader, he was in very close contact with the Bachchan family. He said that former PM Vajpayee still used to visit them and both the families greeted each-other on their special days. Bachchan further revealed that the former PM inaugurated the ‘stamp’ dedicated to his father in Lucknow. He said he also went and visited Atal Bihari Vajpayee when he went through a knee operation at the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. In his words, Big B describes, "It was during the monsoons .. and as he lay on his bed he was facing the window of his room and the rain was pouring down .. and he said ..” मूसलाधार बारिश हो रही है " !"
Praising the former President's oratory, Amitabh Bachchan said that his oratory powers were unmatched with an exemplary usage of words. He revealed that the former PM was very particular about punctuations.
"His oratory powers were unmatched and the usage of words exemplary, they were filled with the power of pronunciation the rendition of the word was enough to give it meaning .. one did not need to understand the language .. that was his brilliance .. some of his public speeches and ones done in the Houses of Parliament are testimony .." he wrote in his blog.
Bachchan concluded his write-up on an emotional note where he identified Atal Bihari Vajpayee as a 'rare human'.
".. a poet a writer a politician a Prime Minister .. an extremely rare human .." he wrote in his concluding line.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee, breathed his last at the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. Former PM Vajpayee was admitted to the hospital on June 11 due to a kidney tract infection, chest congestion, and excretion problem.
