Anurag Kashyap Flags Death Threat To Mumbai Police Amid Intolerance Row, Gets Prompt Response

Anurag Kashyap has knocked on the doors of the police after allegedly receiving a death threat after he was one of the signatories of the letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over ‘intolerance.’

Anurag Kashyap once again has knocked on the doors of the police after allegedly receiving a death threat on social media for being one of the signatories of the letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over ‘intolerance.’ The filmmaker, who had approached the Mumbai Police over an obscene message regarding his daughter in May, was reportedly threatened after the latest controversy revolving around 49 artists' letter to PM. The ‘Sacred Games’ director’s complaint received a prompt response from Mumbai Police, who informed the matter to the cyber police while asking him to file a complaint with the nearest police station.

Kashyap had tagged the Mumbai Police, replying to the now-deleted tweet, which had allegedly sent him a death threat on June 25. 

The official Twitter handle of the Mumbai Police replied, “The cyber police station has been sent the account details. Request you to file a police complaint at your nearest police station for legal action to be initiated.” 

The director had then thanked the police for the prompt response. 

Kashyap had approached cops in May: 

Kashyap, while congratulating PM Modi for coming into power for the second time, had highlighted a person threatening his daughter over Kashyap's political leanings 

He had tweeted, "Dear @narendramodi sir. Congratulations on your victory and thank you for the message of inclusiveness. Sir please also tell us how do we deal with these followers of yours who celebrate your victory by threatening my daughter with messages like this for me being your dissenter." 

He had later filed a complaint with the cops and written, “Anyways I want to thank @MumbaiPolice @MahaCyber1 @Brijeshbsingh for helping me with filing the FIR. Thank you so much for the amazing support and starting the process.Thank you @Dev_Fadnavis  and thank you @narendramodi Sir. As a father I am more secure now.”

Letter vs letter row: 

Anurag Kashyap, along with 48 other artists including Aparna Sen, Konkona SenSharma, among others wrote a letter to the PM highlighting the controversies surrounding intolerance, mob lynchings and ‘Jai Shri Ram’ chants in the country. In a counter letter, 62 celebrities including Kangana Ranaut, Prasoon Joshi, Madhur Bhandarkar, termed the 49-artists' letter as ‘selective outrage and false narrative’.
