Usually there’s at least one controversy when a Salman Khan film is up for release, and that has been the case with ‘Bharat’ too. Apart from a PIL that sought a change in the film’s title, the actor’s comment on Priyanka Chopra for opting out of the film made headlines for the wrong reasons. After his ‘hats off’ to the actress for ‘dumping’ the movie for her marriage sparked a controversy, the ‘Dabangg’ star has once again termed her decision as ‘outstanding’ while opening up on the conversation they had over her decision to quit the film.
Salman, in a recent interview with a portal, said he, Priyanka and his sister Arpita met at his house over the matter. The actor revealed that he asked the actress what the matter was and she replied that she might get married to Nick Jonas. The former told her, ‘Get married then’, but she spoke about the chances of the film’s schedule and the marriage dates conflicting.
Salman then asked if she was going to make her own clothes, then told her that it was the designers who were putting together the outfits and that she had to just be present for the main 2-3 days. The ‘Desi Girl’ then stated she isn’t aware of the days she’ll be required to dedicate towards the wedding and Salman said whatever it was, they were ready to adjust according to her.
Salman then revealed that Arpita hinted to him that Priyanka didn’t want to do the film and when he asked if it was true, the actress said she didn’t want to go ahead since Nick had proposed to her. The former then gave his go-ahead.
He then continued in the interview that when such situations arise, people complete the film and get married after a year, but Priyanka didn’t think that way and that, according to him was ‘outstanding.’
Salman called Priyanka’s decision as ‘gutsy’ and an ‘amazing thing’ since she has been one of the most hardworking actresses, who’s plied her trade in both Bollywood and Hollywood, but still, she refused a film that she’d probably get once in 10-15 years.
The actor also stated that Priyanka herself might have wondered that Salman might never work with her again, but he wouldn’t mind collaborating with her in the future.
Salman also quipped that boyfriends and girlfriends might fight and actresses might leave their husbands for a film like ‘Bharat’, but Priyanka did the right thing by doing what she wanted and her replacement Katrina Kaif got what she wanted.
‘Bharat’, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, releases on June 5.
