As Priyanka Gandhi joins Congress, Riteish Deshmukh recounts story of meeting her, gives his verdict on her political entry

Eyeing on the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday (January 23) inducted sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as general secretary for Uttar Pradesh East. As congratulatory messages have been pouring in for the newly-appointed general secretary, Bollywood actor Riteish Deshmukh also took the opportunity to congratulate Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Sharing a picture of Priyanka Gandhi on Twitter, Riteish Deshmukh, the son of late Maharashtra Chief Minister and Congress leader Vilasrao Deshmukh, spoke about his meeting with Gandhi year ago, praising her for her grace and warmth.

He also revealed that while there are people all across thrilled with the news of Priyanka Gandhi's entry into politics, his mother is also one of them.

On Wednesday, as Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was appointed as Congress General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh East, Jyotiraditya Scindia was appointed General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh West.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi, in Amethi, spoke about his sister's induction into Congress saying that he had given a mission to Priyanka-Scindia to take all sections of society in U.P forward under the Congress' ideology. Several Congress leaders have expressed happiness over the fulfilment of their long-term demand. 

However, speaking in the matter, BJP accused the Congress party of dynastic politics, calling it Rahul Gandhi's failure as the president of a national party who needs support to win the public support over again.

Meanwhile, sources have told Republic TV that Priyanka Gandhi may also be lining up an election run, contesting from her mother's Rae Bareli constituency, while her husband and Rahul Gandhi's brother-in-law Robert Vadra may be fielded as a top campaigner for the party.
