Large parts of Assam was ravaged after floods submerged 30 of the 33 districts of the state following heavy rains. The floods situation in the state remains serious as rains still persists in the area. The Kaziranga National Park which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site has also been severely affected by the floods and 90% of it has been submerged in water.
In the wake of the same, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, who recently secured a position in Forbes' World's Highest-Paid Celebrities 2019 list, donated Rs. 1 Crore each to the CM Relief Fund & for Kaziranga Park rescue. Announcing the same on Twitter, the actor urged fans to contribute to the state government's relief fund to combat the flood situation. In the post, he said that he is absolutely heartbroken to know the devastation caused by floods in Assam and extended support to the victims of the natural calamity.

Meanwhile, actress Priyanka Chopra, who is the brand ambassador for Assam Tourism also extended support to the flood victims in the state. In a recent post, she urged fans to donate funds for Assam Flood Relief.
"Extremely devasted by all the news coming in from #Assam and other parts of India. It’s heartbreaking to read about the displacement and loss of life. My prayers with those affected," she wrote in the post.

Retired Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has also put out a post raising awareness about the flood conditions in Assam, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Tripura. He extended his support and asked fans to come forward and contribute to the cause.

As per media reports, about 95% of the Kaziranga National Park is under the water. Rhino habitats in Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary and Manas National Park have also been inundated with floodwaters. Twenty-three wild animals have reportedly died owing to the floods. As seen in the video, animals are being shifted to highlands, and the latest visuals show they are navigating to through neck-deep water. The speed limit has been set at 20kmph to ensure safe movement of animals.
The death toll of people owing to the situation is 15. Over 50 lakh people have been affected by the floods. The government has set up over 183 relief camp and over one lakh people are living in the same.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal over the phone and discussed the prevailing situation on Monday. Altogether, 4,157 villages are reeling from the impact of the floods that have overrun 1,53,211 hectares of farmland with standing crops, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority had said.
