Ayushmann Khurrana And Vivek Dahiya Chosen For This Important Responsibility In Hometown Chandigarh Ahead Of The Lok Sabha Polls

Wherever one goes, the place where someone has been born and brought always holds a special place in that person’s heart. And when an opportunity presents to give back your to your hometown in any way, most people consider it an honour and do it without blinking an eyelid. Ayushmanna Khurrana and Vivek Dahiya recently had such a moment as they've happily agreed to participate in the initiative to encourage people to come out in big numbers to vote in the Lok Sabha polls.

While the first phase kicks off on Thursday, Chandigarh will be going to polls on May 19 and the 'AndhaDhun' star has been announced as the District Icon of Chandigarh by SWEEP, Systematic  Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation, a platform which is working towards the mission. 

Vivek, a known face on TV for shows like 'Ye Hai Mohabbatein' star too expressed his delight about being chosen for the responsibility to increase voter awareness and endorse voter literacy, "It's an honor to be chosen by the Election Commission of India for a cause of prime importance. The main objective was to form a participative democracy in India by inspiring all qualified people to vote and make a knowledgeable choice during the Indian elections. I've grown up in a family and neighborhood of lawyers and have been part of conversations concerning the Government, our country."

He added: "We keep travelling to perform in the remotest parts of the country or make appearances because of the celebrity status but this is an opportunity to do my bit for the country even if it is just by increasing voter awareness & endorsing voter literacy in India representing my state.”  

Previously, Ayushmann was among those who were called on by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to urge the people of the country to vote. 

 Ayushmann had then replied, "Honourable PM @narendramodi ji, as aware citizens and opinion leaders it is the duty of every public figure to spread this awareness. We need to vote in maximum numbers and restore faith in the world’s largest democracy. Jai Hind." It's good to see the actor walking the talk with this role for their hometown.
