Not two, but three films, Akshay Kumar’s ‘Bachchan Pandey’, Aamir Khan’s ‘Laal Singh Chadha’ and Ranbir Kapoor-Ajay Devgn’s next with Luv Ranjan are all set to release on Christmas 2020.
While the second and third films have been confirmed and have in the news for long, Akshay’s ‘Bachchan Pandey’ not just came out of the blue on Friday, but also surprised everyone with its release date.
It’d be interesting to see if there’d be a tussle between the makers of the films to get a substantial number of screens as distributors and exhibitors would also get into the pictur then.
All three films have major reasons to draw footfalls. Akshay’s look with the moustache, lungi and gold chains and the quirky title makes this Farhad Samji directorial interesting.
On the other hand, Aamir will be seen on the big screen after a gap of two years since ‘Thugs of Hindostan’ in ‘Laal Singh Chadha’. The fact that it is the remake of the iconic ‘Forrest Gump’ and also brings about the reunion of the actor with ‘3 Idiots’ co-star Kareena Kapoor Khan makes it another major factor.
After ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’ franchise and ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’, Luv Ranjan is working with more established names for the first time, as Ranbir and Ajay pair up. The fact that one or both from Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt could also join this cast, makes it reason enough for people to throng the theatres.
Incidentally, this is not the only three-way clash that is set to take place at the ticket windows next year. As per reports, four films were slated to hit the screens next year during the Eid weekend. Rohit Shetty-Akshay Kumar’s ‘Sooryavanshi’, SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ starring Ram Charan, Jr NTR, Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Shamshera’ and Salman Khan-Alia Bhatt’s ‘Inshallah.’
However, ‘Sooryavanshi’ has now been advanced to March 27, 2020 after ‘brothers’ Rohit-Salman had made an announcement with a snap. There has been no update if any of the other releases could shift their dates yet.
Moreover, this year, too, three films were set to release on Independence Day, before Prabhas-Shraddha Kapoor’s ‘Saaho’ got postponed by two weeks to leave Akshay and John Abraham’s ‘Batla House’ battling at the box office.
However, they will have the Hollywood biggie ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ to compete with.
