To prep for his role in ‘Batla House’, John Abraham met DCP Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, the officer on whom his character is based on, but he might not have expected some of the shocking details that emerged in their conversation. Not just the fact that he was involved in 75 encounters, DCP Yadav faced a traumatic phase amid the controversy of the Batla House encounter and even contemplated suicide.
John and the team of ‘Batla House’ spoke exclusively to Republic TV ahead of the release of the film. Opening up on his conversation with DCP Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, the actor revealed, “He's very shy and quiet. In real life, he's reclusive. I asked him how many encounters he had done, he said, '75'.”
He continued, “His wife is firebrand and outspoken. Their chemistry is quite unique and special.”
“The first day we met, I asked him what he went through; in 6 hours, I learnt a lot. Not only the body language, but what he went through, PTSD, the trauma he went through, he used to be very disturbed. He told me there was a point when he wanted to commit suicide, when the allegations were made against him, he told me everything. There is a scene in the film, he dismantles his own gun and gave it to his wife because he was so scared that he might kill himself. He put all the parts of the gun in different parts of the house,” the ‘Desi Boys’ star continued.
Even Mrunal Thakur, the lead actress of the film, who plays the role of his wife, met DCP Yadav and recollected this story.

The film is based on the Batla House encounter, that took place on September 19, 2008 in the aftermath of the blasts in Delhi. In the encounter, two alleged terrorists were killed, two were arrested and one escaped. The case had got embroiled in a massive political controversy.
The movie traces the encounter, DCP Yadav being honoured for it, the allegations of it being a fake case and the inquiry on him regarding the same. The film has been directed by Nikkhil Advani. The film hits the theatres on August 15.
