Despite having a star cast of the most renowned names of Bollywood, Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor starrer 'Batti Gul Meter Chalu' had a dull start at the box office. The film is helmed by Shree Narayan Singh, and not long after 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha', the director is back with yet another drama based on a social issue.
Despite having a partial holiday, the film observed a low Day 1 and minted a total of Rs. 6.76 Crore and now the figures for Day 2 are in. However, things did not brighten up for the Shahid Kapoor starrer as it minted a total of Rs. 7.96 Crores on Day 2. According to Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh, the film needs a miraculous growth on Day 3. Taking to the micro-blogging site, Twitter he said "#BattiGulMeterChalu witnesses 17.75% growth on Day 2, but since the starting point was low, the 2-day total is lacklustre... Needs miraculous growth on Day 3 - in double digits - for a respectable weekend total... Fri 6.76 cr, Sat 7.96 cr. Total: ₹ 14.72 cr. India biz. #BGMC"
Here's the tweet!

The film is inspired by real events and Shree Narayan Singh and the writers Garima and Siddharth have done an extensive research for the film. The shooting of the film commenced in Uttarakhand, the dialogues are laced with Garhwali. Further, the actors in the film were also asked to learn the dialect in order to retain authenticity.
