The trailer of the Shahid Kapoor starrer 'Batti Gul Meter Chalu' is finally here and it has everything we were hoping for. The film packs a punch as it echoes the sentiments of those reeling under the power theft menace. 'Batti Gul Meter Chalu' follows the story of Shahid's character, an advocate by profession, who takes on the system in an attempt to bring justice to his friend Divyenndu Sharma who commits suicide after he is unable to pay off his electricity bill of Rs 1.5 lakh. Shree Narayan Singh is at it again. After his last directorial 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha', which hit screens in India in August 2017, addressed the much relevant subject of open defecation, the director has now turned his focus to the issue of power theft. Shifting his focus from Uttar Pradesh in 'Toilet Ek Prem Katha' to Uttarakhand in 'Batti Gul Meter Chalu', the film brings the issue to light with a rather convincing performance from Shahid Kapoor.

After his power-packed performance in 'Udta Punjab', 'Batti Gul Meter Chalu' could prove instrumental in sealing Shahid Kapoor's place as an established acting force of his generation. Shraddha, on the other hand, looks convincing in her role as  Divyenndu Sharma's sister and Shahid's love interest. The actress oozes innocence and strength all at the same time while transforming from a happy go lucky girl to a grief-stricken sister with utmost ease as she demonstrates different shades of her character in the trailer. Meanwhile, one cannot miss the fact that Shraddha Kapoor has an exciting couple of months ahead with her next 'Stree' co-starring Rajkummar Rao, which also looks extremely promising, slated for a release on August 31. The release date of 'Batti Gul Meter Chalu' was earlier postponed from August 31 to September 14 in order to reportedly avoid a clash with the Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao starrer 'Stree'. 'Batti Gul Meter Chalu' would have then clashed with Kajol's 'Helicopter Eela' had its release date not been deferred once again to September 21. 'Batti Gul Meter Chalu' is produced by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar.
