With time, the Indian film industry eventually started moving out of the traditional studio and set shooting routine to shooting at real locations. Bollywood, known for capturing the essence of some of the most prominent cities from India and around the world. Mumbai is touted to be the city of dreams and the industrial hub of India. It has also been used as a prominent location by Bollywood. Here are some of the movies that captured the essence of Mumbai in the most natural way.

Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai:

The 2010 film was one of the best instances when Bollywood captured Mumbai as a whole. The movie’s title also has Mumbai in its name. Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai is based on the late 20th century Mumbai and all the mafia and underworld happenings surrounding the city.

Bombay:

The 1995 Tamil film directed by Mani Ratnam was another instance when Bollywood showcased the colours of Mumbai. Bombay was initially directed in Tamil and was based on the 1992 and 1993 riots that took place in Mumbai. The film received much critical appreciation and was dubbed into Hindi and Telugu. It is one of the movies that showcased Mumbai while it was surrounded with peril.

Taxi No. 9211:

Bollywood movies through the time have showcased and highlighted different colours of the city of this city of dreams. Taxi No. 9211 is a 2006 Bollywood movie that highlights Mumbai and life around the city. It is based on the daily hustle of commoners in the town as well as the nightlife.

The Lunchbox:

The 2013 romantic drama was another instance when Bollywood movies highlighted the city of dreams, Mumbai. The Lunchbox is a story based on the exchange of Handwritten letters via mistakenly delivered Dabbas (Lunchboxes). The film depicted the local train life and the daily routine of the Dabbawalas of Mumbai.

The Attacks of 26/11:

The docu-drama based on the terror attacks of 26/11 also highlighted the peril of Mumbai. The 2013 film is among the list of Bollywood movies that captured the city’s essence in it.
