Bollywood's much-anticipated upcoming venture 'Kedarnath' has been drawn into legal turmoil as the Bombay High Court said that it is going to hear the plea against the film on Thursday, November 6.

As per media reports, a petition has been filed by lawyers Ramesh Chandra Mishra and Prabhakar Tripathi, seeking a reassessment of the film before release. They have asked the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to review the film on grounds that 'it hurts religious sentiments and promotes love-jihad'.

ANI reported that the petition states, "The love story between a Hindu girl (played by Sara) and a Muslim boy (played by Sushant) will create a drastic situation and will promote love-jihad."

The plea further stated that shooting a love scene at Kedarnath, an important pilgrimage site for Hindus, hurts their religious sentiments. The petitioners demanded that the release of the film, which is all set to hit the big screens on December 7, should be kept on hold until CBFC clears it again.

As per media reports, the lawyer for CBFC have opposed the petition and terming it as 'politically-motivated'.

"CBFC has assessed the movie as per set guidelines by following all procedures. This petition is politically motivated, " ANI quoted the statement of the counsel for CBFC.

'Kedarnath' is surrounded by controversy ever since the trailer of the film was released. The shooting a love scene at Kedarnath, an important pilgrimage site for Hindus, hurts their religious sentiments. Previously, Congress party had pointed out 'objectionable aspects' in the teaser of the upcoming film saying that the film violates the beliefs of the followers of Hindu religion and has inappropriate scenes which should be removed immediately. The film that stars Sushant Singh Rajput and Sara Ali Khan in the lead roles is set against the backdrop of a catastrophic deluge that hit the Himalayan shrine in 2013.

Moreover, a senior BJP leader had also demanded a ban on the movie, alleging that it hurts the sentiments of Hindus and 'promotes love jihad.' As per media reports, Ajendra Ajay, who is part of the state BJP's media relations team, wrote to Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chairman Prasoon Joshi that despite being set against the backdrop of one of the worst human tragedies, the film directed by Abhishek Kapoor makes fun of Hindu sentiments.

However, 'Kedarnath' is not the only film that is dragged into controversy ahead of its release. Earlier, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Padmaavat' also had to face a lot of flack ahead of its release.
