There have been numerous hurdles in the path of Ananya Panda-Tiger Shroff-Tara Sutaria’s ‘Student of the Year 2.’ Starting with mixed reviews from critics and fans alike, the movie had to battle the sixth phase of the general elections, and the Indian Premier League final, both of which affected the collections to an extent. Despite the obstacles, the movie went on to perform decently at the box office, earning over Rs 38 crore in the opening weekend. On Monday, considered a crucial test for any movie, the campus romance witnessed a substantial drop, as is the norm on the first day of the week.
After opening to a collection of Rs 12.06 crore, 'Student of the Year 2' witnessed limited growth, earning Rs 14.02 crore on Saturday, but again dipping to Rs 12.75 crore on Sunday. The total, Rs 38.83 crore was termed as ‘decent’, though according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the figure should’ve been much higher than ‘Baaghi’, which had also earned a similar figure in its opening weekend.
On its fourth day, Monday, the Punit Malhotra directorial earned Rs 5.52 crore, dropping 54.23 percent in comparison to the opening day. While a drop is imminent on Monday, according to Adarsh, the movie ‘slowed down’ at the multiplexes of Mumbai, Delhi and NCR where it was performing the best. The total now stands at Rs 44.35 crore.
While the movie crossing Rs 50-crore mark is confirmed, it'd be interesting to see whether it’d drop further or remain stable over the weekdays.
