Akshay Kumar has continued his impressive run at the box office, that has been on for almost four years, with his latest release ‘Kesari’. The war drama has minted good collections of over Rs 85 crore in five days, but they are lesser than expected and trade experts feel Indian Premier League might have played spoilsport to an extent.
The Anurag Singh directorial not only managed the highest opening day figures of the year at Rs 21.06 crore, but enjoyed the best opening weekend too, of Rs 78.07 crore.
However, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh who tweeted the figures, the IPL, which started on Saturday, could’ve created a substantial dent in the collections, since a lot more was expected on the weekends.
Even on Monday, often termed as a ‘make or break’ day or 'litmus test', the collections were not in two digits, as was expected, but only Rs 8.25 crore.
While the total is impressive at Rs 86.32 crore, with IPL matches scheduled every day and some days even featuring two matches, the chances of the film taking a further hit at the box office definitely seems to be on the cards. The movie will, without a doubt, cross the Rs 100 crore-mark, but it might not touch Rs 150 crore.
'Kesari' is based on the 1897 Battle of Saragarhi and also stars Parineeti Chopra. The movie has been produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, Cape of Good Films, Azure Entertainment and Zee Studios.
