Can Ayushmann Khurrana make it five hits in a row? The actor, whose last failure at the box office was ‘Meri Pyaari Bindu’ in 2017, has been on a roll since then. While he bounced back with decent successes like ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi' and 'Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’ the same year, it was in 2018, that he turned out to be on fire, with the Rs 100-crore hit ‘Badhaai Ho’ and the massively acclaimed success ‘AndhaDhun.’ The 34-year-old is all set to continue this fine run if the initial trending for his first 2019 movie ‘Article 15’ is anything to go by. The Anubhav Sinha directorial has been unanimously lauded by critics and fans alike with some amazing words, and the box office collections are also progressing accordingly. The controversial film has witnessed an impressive jump on the second day, after a decent opening, and now stands at a total of Rs 12.27 crore.

Ayushmann got the second-highest opening of his career after ‘Badhaai Ho’, (Rs 7.35 crore) as ‘Article 15’ earned Rs 5.02 crore on its first day. The movie has shown good growth on Saturday with Rs 7.25 crore coming in, taking the total to Rs 12.27 crore.

According to trade expert Taran Adarsh, who tweeted the figures, the social thriller is showing good trending, particularly at the urban centres. He also shared that the crucial India vs England World Cup match could be a dampener for the collections on Sunday.

‘Article 15’ collections also need to be lauded because Shahid Kapoor-Kiara Advani’s ‘Kabir Singh’ has been enjoying a blistering run at the box office, crossing the Rs 150 crore-mark in just 9 days.

The film, however, has been facing protests at multiple places, mainly in the North, for its depiction of caste equations playing a part in a criminal event. While demonstrations have been held against director Anubhav Sinha, reportedly cinema owners have been threatened by fringe groups and some shows were also stalled at some places.
