John Abraham had a memorable 2018 with both his solo-starrers turning out to be successful. However, the actor’s endeavour for a hat-trick has suffered a jolt with his first release of the year, ‘Romeo Akbar Walter’ taking a low opening at the box office.

According to reports, ‘Romeo Akbar Walter’ collected Rs 5 crore on the day of release, Friday. The point to note here is that John’s last release ‘Satyameva Jayate’ had opened to an outstanding Rs 20 crore, and had even given Akshay Kumar’s ‘Gold’ tough competition on Independence Day on its way to becoming the actor’s highest solo grosser.

On the other hand, the ‘Dostana’ star’s release before that, ‘Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran’ had collected similar to what ‘RAW’ had collected Rs 4.82 crore. However, the difference here is that the former was majorly lauded by critics and audiences, which led to the movie earning over Rs 60 crore. But that’s not the case with ‘RAW as it has largely got poor to average reviews.

That's the reason chances of any significant jump in the collections are less. The only thing that could work in its favour is that there are no major releases this week, and it has only previous releases as competition. However, the IPL has been minorly affecting Bollywood according to trade experts, and that could create a dent for the John Abraham starrer.

Meanwhile, ‘Luka Chuppi’ and ‘Badla’ have passed the box office test with flying colours and have been declared as ‘Super Hit’ by trade analyst Taran Adarsh. While the Kartik Aaryan-Kriti Sanon-starrer earned Rs 92.73 crore, Taapsee Pannu-Amitabh Bachchan’s film is at Rs 83.69 crore right now.

The final verdict on Akshay Kumar’s ‘Kesari’ is yet to come out, but the movie has been a success with Rs 137.17 crore in the bag till now.

Vidyut Jammwal’s ‘Junglee’ did decent business in the first week, earning Rs 21.20 crore, but it is ‘lower than expected’ and not on the lines of 'Commando 2.'

Salman Khan’s launchpad for Pranutan Bahl-Zaheer Iqbal, 'Notebook' didn’t do well, with collections less than Rs 5 crore in the first week.
