Bollywood films are usually released on Fridays, ahead of the weekend. However, national and other holidays have always been an exception to film release. On the occasion of Independence Day, two major films on nationalism were released - Akshay Kumar starrer 'Gold' and John Abraham starrer 'Satyamev Jayate'. many were sceptical about releasing two big films on the same day, as it would affect box-office numbers.
However, surprisingly enough both the films had a reasonably good opening at the box office beginning at the box-office. Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter and announced the box-office numbers of both the films. While 'Gold' earned a total of Rs25.25 crore at the box-office, 'Satyamaev Jayate' was not far behind at Rs 20.52 crore.
These two films have also made it to the top five biggest openings of 2018 as well. 'Gold' stands third on the list and 'Satyamev Jayate' stands at the fifth position.
'Gold' is the story of Tapan Das (Akshay Kumar) who dreams of seeing the Indian National flag waving high on the Olympic ground when the Hockey team wins a gold for a free India. The film helmed by Reema Kagti and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar traces the 12-year journey that leads to India winning its first gold medal as a free country.
While 'Satyamev Jayate' is an Indian vigilante action film directed by Milap Zaveri. Four police officers are burnt alive in a series of merciless killing and the entire police force is shook by this event. The media and several others are looking for answers. In the attempt to find the person behind the crime, they uncover the corrupt systems of the city.
