Box Office: Vicky Kaushal-starrer ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ Off To A ‘flying Start’, ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ ‘decent’

2019 has started with a bang for the film industry, as the first two major releases of the year, both based on real events/persons have received a positive response at the box office on opening day. While Vicky Kaushal-starrer ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ took an excellent opening, Anupam Kher-Akshaye Khanna's The Accidental Prime Minister’ didn’t disappoint either.

2019 has started with a bang for the film industry, as the first two major releases of the year, both based on real events/persons have received a positive response at the box office on opening day. While ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ took an excellent opening, ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ didn’t disappoint either.

The Vicky Kaushal starrer took a ‘flying start’ at the box office, earning Rs 8.20 crore on the opening day, according to figures tweeted by Taran Adarsh. The trade analyst also expected the war drama to witness further growth at the ticket windows in the next two days.

The Anupam Kher-Akshaye Khanna starrer, on the other hand, took a ‘decent’ start, earning Rs 4.50 crore, courtesy the pick-up in footfalls from the evening shows, he wrote. 

 

‘The Accidental Prime Minister’, directed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte, is based on the life of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh while Aditya Dhar's ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ is the adaptation of the Indian Army’s attack at suspected militants in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in the wake of the attacks in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri in September 2016.

While ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ had a higher buzz owing to the political controversy that led to Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party and other party leaders expressing their views on it, ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ has received unanimous praises from celebrities, fans and critics.  Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given his thumbs up to the team for the effective portrayal of the attacks and the army operations.
