As everyone is aware by now that Alia Bhatt holds a British passport and cannot cast her vote, the actress was asked about the same during 'Yours Truly' film screening that she attended with father Mahesh Bhatt and mother Soni Razdaan.

During the media interaction, the reporter asked, 'aap and Soni ji vote nai kar sakte, kya aapko malaal hota hai?'.

Alia replied saying, 'Malaal?' Mujhe samjhao meaning kya hai?"

The reporter then said, 'Dukh, Afsos'

And Alia replied: "I mean, it's a catch 22. We would ofcourse love to vote. But ek situation hai jo technically, filhaal possible nai hai. Hopefully maybe in the future, could be a dual citizenship shayad kuch ho sake. I am glad everybody went out in such big numbers to vote."

The entire issue of Alia Bhatt not being able to vote was further intensified when Kangana Ranaut's sister Rangoli Chandel attacked the two and said, "These non Indians who are living off this land, using and abusing its people and its resources, lying about intolerance and spreading hatred, time to think about their agenda and not to get carried away with their provocations." Prime Minister Narendra Modi tagged Alia Bhatt and requested them to spread the awareness of voting this Election season. He wrote: "Requesting @deepikapadukone, @aliaa08 and @AnushkaSharma to urge people to vote in large numbers for the coming elections. As renowned film personalities whose work is admired by many, I am sure their message will have a positive impact on our citizens."

To which, Alia had responded and tweeted: "A vote is a nation’s voice. A nation’s choice. Use your voice. Make your choice. #Vote #Election2019" [sic]

On the professional front,  Alia Bhatt's last release 'Kalank' failed to impress the audience and couldn't reach Rs 100 crores (the budget was Rs 150 crores). Post that, she featured in a promotional song opposite Tiger Shroff in a song titled 'The Hook Up Song' which also left the Netizens disappointed because of the lyrics.
