Congress Takes On Shah Rukh Khan; Complains That SRK's 'Zero' Has Hurt Sikh Religious Sentiments

Congress leader and spokesperson Charanjit Singh Sapra has approached the police over a scene depicting the use of ‘Kirpan’ in Shah Rukh Khan's 'Zero.' Sapra has sent a written complaint to the Mumbai police, stating that the visual has hurt the sentiments of Sikhs, for whom the 'Kirpan' is an ‘Article of Faith’.

After an objection from an Akali Dal MLA, there is further trouble for Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Zero’. Now, Congress leader and spokesperson Charanjit Singh Sapra has approached the police over a scene depicting the use of ‘Kirpan’ in the movie. Sapra has sent a written complaint to the Mumbai police, stating that the visual has hurt the sentiments of Sikhs, for whom the 'Kirpan' is an ‘Article of Faith’. In his complaint, he has demanded action against the producers and the director of the movie and the removal of the controversial scene.

Earlier, Delhi Akali Dal MLA Manjinder Singh, who is also the General Secretary of the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee, had also filed a complaint against the movie in Delhi for the scene, claiming that it had ‘created outrage’ among the Sikh community. He had stated that only an Amritdhari Sikh is allowed to wear the 'Gatra Kirpan.'

Singh had demanded the lodging of an FIR against Shah Rukh, who is the lead actor and one of the producers of the movie and Aanand L Rai, the director. He, on behalf of the organisation, also asked for the trailer of the movie to be pulled down with immediate effect and asked the censor board to intervene to remove the ‘offensive’ scene. The body had also expressed opposition for the portrayal of Sikh 'Articles of Faith' in bad light and also for showcasing it in the poster in ‘lighter vein’.

The trailer had made headlines instantly on its release and has earned 74 million views in the span of four days on YouTube. ‘Zero’ also stars Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in lead roles and has been produced by Shah Rukh’s and Aanand L Rai’s respective banners Red Chillies Entertainment and Colour Yellow Productions. The plot of the movie revolves around a 38-year-old vertically challenged man from Meerut, who falls in love with a scientist, played by Anushka’s character, but wants to meet a popular star, essayed by Katrina.
