Wrestler Vinesh Phogat brought laurels to India after she won the gold medal in the 50kg wrestling category at the ongoing Asian Games. She defeated Japan's Yuki Eri in the final of the 50 kg freestyle event and also became the first Indian woman to get a Gold medal at the Asian games.
For those who do not know, she is wrestler Geeta and Babita Phogat's cousin, based on whose life the Bollywood movie 'Dangal' was made. The 2016 film 'Dangal' had Aamir Khan play Mahavir Phogat, father and coach to his wrestler daughters. The film focused on how Mahavir encouraged his girls to play a sport that was considered manly.
Aamir Khan took to Twitter to congratulate Vinesh Phogat on her win on behalf of him and the team of 'Dangal'. He wrote: Congratulations Vinesh for winning the Gold in the Asian Games. We are all so proud of you. Love, Aamir and the team of Dangal. Mhaari chhoriyan chhoron se kam hai ke!
Actor Aparshakti Khurana, who played the role of the narrator and Aamir Khan's nephew in the film also tweeted about the win, by sharing a meme that was doing the rounds on the internet.
Mahavir Phogat, uncle to Vinesh Phogat too took to Twitter and expressed his pride in her and congratulated her for the same.
Other Bollywood stars also congratulated the Phogat for her exemplary achievement.
