Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone has often spoken about the phase when she was suffering from depression.  In 2015, she had revealed that during the shoot of her film 'Happy New Year', she was struggling to go for work each day. It was after she broke out in front of her mother, did she seek professional help from a doctor suggested by her mother. After talking to the psychologist she found out that she has been suffering from anxiety and depression.

While talking at the press conference at FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and industry) Flo in Delhi about her depression phase she said that coping with mental illness affects both the individuals and members of their immediate family. She said that there was not much information available from where she could learn and equip herself.

The actress further said that when she was helpless, it was her mother who realised that something was wrong. Her mother approached a counsellor who is also a very close family friend and things worked out.

Deepika had said in earlier interviews that she was initially reluctant to go for medication, as she thought her condition could be resolved through conversation. But with her emotions and feelings not getting stable, she opted for medication and felt much better with time.

Later, the ‘Piku’ actress also started an organization called 'The Live Laugh Love Foundation' (TLLLF), for spreading awareness about mental health in India through various awareness programmes for children and adults, 24x7 helpline and guides to deal with the illness.
