In a major relief to the makers of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's biopic, the Delhi High Court on Monday has rejected the PIL that sought the stay on the film's release, pertaining to its timing.

The petition filed by advocate Sujeet Kumar Singh stated that the release of the film will help in boosting the image of PM Modi, thereby, influence the voters at a time when the 17th General Elections are less than two weeks away and when the Model Code Of Conduct (MCC) issued by the Election Commission is in force.

The verdict was announced in the presence of the Chief Justice, Anup Jairam Bhambhani. Similar PILs have been filed in the Bombay High Court as well as the Allahabad High Court against the release of the film. The Allahabad High Court has already adjourned the hearing on a plea to the next week and is seeking a stay on the biopic until the end of the General Elections.

Earlier, Congress had also requested the EC to ban the PM Narendra Modi biopic. The National Students' Union Commission- Goa, the Congress party's student wing, urged the EC to impose a ban on the release of the biopic, alleging the movie to be a 'propaganda' by the BJP to influence the voters in the race up to the General Elections.

However, the makers of the film have maintained that the film has nothing to do with the BJP and is a self-funded film.

Following the demands of the Opposition, the Election Commission has decided to put a hold on the film until the conclusion of the Lok Sabha elections, to which the makers of the film have rebutted, calling it a violation of 'freedom of speech' and 'expression' as per reports.

Directed by Omung Kumar, the biopic 'PM Narendra Modi' starrer Vivek Oberoi in the lead has been making rounds all over social media since the trailer was released.  On Friday, March 29, the makers also released the first song 'Namo Namo' of the film.

The film is set to release on April 5, six days before the Lok Sabha polls kick off.
