As Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar's film 'PadMan' is all set to release this week, we bring you 9 interesting facts about the social drama that you probably didn't know!

1. ‘PadMan’ is based on a chapter from Twinkle Khanna’s second book ‘The Legend Of Lakshmi Prasad’. The story is inspired by the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a social activist from Tamil Nadu, who invented sanitary napkin machines so that he can produce sanitary napkins which rural women can afford.

2. Twinkle Khanna first came across Arunachalam Muruganantham’s story while researching for her column that inspired her to dedicate a chapter about him in her book.

3. The movie ‘ PadMan’ is Twinkle Khanna’s maiden production.

4. Besides Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte, the film also stars Amitabh Bachchan in a special appearance as himself.


5. It would come as a surprise, but twinkle Khanna had not initially thought of casting her husband for the role. she had several others in mind. But on the insistence of the director R. Balki, even Twinkle finalised Akshay Kumar. 

6. ‘PadMan’ is Akshay Kumar’s first collaboration with director R Balki, who has helmed films like ‘Paa’ and ‘Cheeni Kum’.

7.  The Oxford Union, a debating society in the city of Oxford in England screened 'Padman', making it the first Indian film to be screened. 

 8.  'PadMan’ is the only second Bollywood film to be granted access to shoot inside the headquarters of the United Nations in New York City after ‘Half Girlfriend’ in 2016.

9. ‘PadMan’ was first slated to release on April 13, 2018. The release date was changed to Republic Day 2018 and then altered to January 25, 2018. Akshay Kumar, however, postponed the release to February 9, 2018, to avoid a clash with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s controversial period drama ‘Padmaavat’.
