Durga Ashtami: Bollywood stars celebrate festival with great fervour

As Durga Puja celebrations are running parallel with Navaratri, several Bollywood stars such as Amitabh Bachchan celebrated the festival with great fervour.

As Durga Puja celebrations are running parallel with Navaratri, several Bollywood stars celebrated the festival with great fervour. According to reports, Bollywood's 'Shehenshah' Amitabh Bachchan and wife Jaya Bachchan were spotted at the North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja Samiti seeking blessings from goddess Durga. While Amitabh wore a white kurta-pyjama along with his signature style shawl, wife Jaya wore a white traditional Bengali saree. Further, the Bachchans were joined by Kajol, her son Yug and Ayan Mukerji. Kajol wore a yellow silk saree that showcased the finesse of Bengali art and culture.

Shilpa Shetty Kundra celebrates Durga Puja

As per the post on Instagram, Shilpa Shetty Kundra also marked the day by feeding the girls on Durga Ashtami. The actress shared a picture on her Instagram where she can be seen feeding the girls along with her son Vihaan. In her Instagram caption, she wrote, "The wait is finally over as the Goddess who rides on the lion has arrived. There should be no sorrows in my life and I pray that your life be full of happiness. Priyanka Chopra was also spotted at the North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja Samiti in the city. She wore an ethnic white embroidered Kurti.

About the festival

The eighth day of Navaratri or Durga Puja is celebrated as Durga Ashtami. It is a Hindu festival that is celebrated to mark the victory of good over evil. People offer prayers at temples of Goddess Durga, prepare feasts and fly kites during the festival. Devotees also listen to traditional music and religious songs.
