Dussehra 2019: Check out the actors who have played Ram and Ravan

Dussera is here, after nine glorious nights of Navratri. The festive season has officially begun, and each festival has its own story. Every story has mythological roots, which have been captured on Indian television with several TV shows, films, and even novels. However, the TV shows are what have stood apart, and the actors cast in it have etched themselves in our memories as Ram, Sita, Ravan, and other characters from the stories. Here are some actors who became immortal after playing Ram and Ravana on the show.

1. Arun Govil

The actor’s name became synonymous with Lord Ram over the decades. More than thirty years after starring as Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s classic television series Ramayan, it has become impossible for people to unsee him as diety. In the 1980s, Arun Govil was no less than the mythological hero everyone awaited on a Sunday morning. 

2. Arvind Trivedi

According to the reports, the actor’s village people mourned for the day Ravana Vadh was aired. Over the decades, the portrayal of Ravana might have changed in television shows but the Dashanan is still the highlight of the story. Actors who have played Raavan have lived up to the expectations of the viewers. Nowadays, the audience prefers six-pack abs over the pot-bellied actors to play Ravana. Therefore, the actors have to double up their hard work to prepare for the intensity of Ravana apart from maintaining a fit body.

3. Puneet Issar

The actor played Ravana in Raavan Ki Ramayan for a few years. During those years, Puneet Issar did not miss even a single day of his gym. He maintained a level of fitness to gain the required physical strength and stamina. Amongst millennials, Ravana is not portrayed as an evil monster, but a very intelligent man. Apart from being an overpowering character, Puneet thinks that the character of Ravana needs to be relatable to the audience.

4. Aarya Babbar

The actor played Ravana in Sankat Mochan Mahabali Hanumaan. The actor thought of himself as a relatable character in the Indian mythology show. It is a challenge to present an intelligent man while also focussing on his evil side. Loaded with drama, the act made him look demonic. According to sources, Babbar received disrespect for his role and this led to a downfall.

5. Gurmeet Choudhary

Gurmeet was the new-generation six-pack abs flaunting Ram that the audience can relate to. Telecasted in 2009, Ramayan starred with Debina Bonnerjee on this NDTV show. Debina played Sita in this television series. People were often comparing him with Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan actor Arun Govil.
