The biopic ‘PM Narendra Modi’ has been making headlines ever since it was announced, but the film has also found itself in controversies, from allegations of being a 'propaganda film' to political parties objecting to its release with the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Talking about the same in an exclusive interview with Republic TV, producer Sandip Ssingh affirmed that it is not a propaganda film and is not subjected to influence the upcoming elections. He said that the only intentional of the makers was to narrate a human story.
"As a filmmaker what we decide is to make the film, to tell a human story. Though its a political figure but what touched me most was the human side of PM Narendra Modi, which is well captured in the film. It is an inspirational journey from a 'chaiwala' to become the Prime Minister. It's not a propaganda film." he said.
"I don't know why whether its Congress or DMK, NCP, they are all targeting us and calling it a propaganda film, though it is not. It's only that we are coming before the election and the release date is 5th of April, they are thinking like that." he clarified further.
Justifying his point, he continued saying, "If they are confident about their work which they have done over years, they should not worry about the film, because they are senior parties and every party has their inspiring leaders."
"I don't think I myself or my team has made the film becuse we want to change the mindset of the voters. Do they really think a 2-hour film can change the mind of the people? and convert that into a winning thing for any party? I don't think so. Everybody is educated, everybody knows what the government is doing, which government is doing what, and every party is big if somebody is going to high court, or election commission, I think they should first find out what the film is all about." the producer said.
As per media reports, after feeling that Omung Kumar's upcoming 'PM Narendra Modi' violates the model code of conduct, the Election Commission on Tuesday served a notice to the biopic's makers and is awaiting a reply. Talking about the same, the producer said, "Neither I nor any of our team members have received any letter."
"Right now we are just concentrating on the film. We are hoping to release the film on April 5, because we have worked really hard for the making of the same. We want the nation to watch the film, get inspired and do something for the country. If a 'chaiwala ' can become a Prime Minister, I think every individual can do something significant for the nation." he added.
Criticizing the ongoing controversy he said, "This has happed earlier with several projects. Filmmakers are easily targeted people and its very easy for any party to get publicity out of it."
Talking about the film fraternity's support to the project, he said, "I don't know, till now the film fraternity has not come forward in support of this film, and I don't think that's required. If anybody stands by us it's great, otherwise, we are fighting our own battle."
He concluded saying, "We have worked hard for the film and I request every party to understand that the film is not a propaganda film."
