After the announcement of a biopic on the life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, now a 10-part web series on the country chief is underway. Eros Now and Benchmark Pictures have collaborated to produce the biopic web-series titled 'Modi'. The project will be helmed by filmmaker Umesh Shukla, who has previously directed critically acclaimed ventures like 'Oh My God' and '102 Not Out'. It is all set to premiere on Eros Now in April.
Ahead of the same, Republic TV got in touch with the cast of the upcoming biopic web-series, who opened up about their experience working on the project. The series will feature the Indian Prime Minister's life in 3 phases. While actor Mahesh Thakur will portray the current PM, Ashish Sharma will represent him in his youth and Faizal Khan will bring on screen his childhood days.
While having a conversation with Republic TV, actor Mahesh Thakur, whose stunning resemblance with PM Modi has grabbed many eyeballs, revealed that he felt 'fantastic' and worried at the same time when he was offered the role.
"It was fantastic, for the simple reason that he is a loved man. But at the same time, it dawns upon you, will your audience, your director, scriptwriter will accept it. So the issue of acceptance kept dawning upon me." he said.
"It is a very difficult role because the person is popular and he is right there on your TV screen. You are going to be compared no matter what. So you can try your best to bring it close, not otherwise." he added.
The actor also revealed that it was indeed challenging to represent the country chief on-screen. Talking about the same, he said, "We all know our Prime Minister, he is always there on TV, giving speeches, giving lectures and doing so much for the country. We are very aware of his persona. As an actor when we are portraying someone on-screen you need some reference point and we had a lot of it. But the issue is, unlike any other character which is written and there is no reference point, you think and portray it, but when you have somebody in front of you, it's like a boundary wall, you cannot do more than that, it looks you are over-acting, you are mimicking, and you cannot do less either. To get the right balance and portray it on screen is the most challenging part about this role. I have tried my best. "
While talking about how he prepped for the role, Mahesh Thakur said, "There have been changes in his speaking style over years, so, I had to see all his videos and had to practice his mannerisms. When I was given the lines, I had to rehearse them repeatedly to get the right feel. It was difficult, to give the right performance and also give the right angles for the shot."
Meanwhile, the Bollywood venture 'PM Narendra Modi' starring Vivek Oberoi as the Indian Prime Minister, got a release date recently. The film which also stars Darshan Kumaar, Boman Irani, Zarina Wahab, Manoj Joshi, Barkha Bisht Sengupta, Akshat R Saluja, Anjan Shrivastav, Rajendra Gupta and Yatin Karyekar, will hit the theaters on April 12, 2019.
