The much anticipated Bollywood venture 'Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi' released on January 25. The film which was one of the most anticipated ventures of 2019 received huge appreciation from the audience and the critics. The period drama starring actress Kangana Ranaut as the titular character is based on the life and struggles of Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi and her war against the British East India Company, during the Indian Rebellion of 1857.
Recently, Kangana Ranaut who turned director with the project said that her film is being targeted. In an exclusive interview on Court Martial on Republic Bharat with Arnab Goswami, she said, "My film is being targeted. There are attempts to suppress this film and there are a lot of people who are calling out so that its business is shown less and things like that. They are the people who don't want the film to reach the audience. However, those are failed attempts."
During the conversation, she was asked who she thinks is trying to pull the project down the actress refused to take any names and said, "It will be unfair to take a single person's name"
Again, when asked about why she thinks her film is targeted specifically, she said, "I don't want to want to come up with a conclusion. When any film like 'Daangal' or 'Raazi' releases I go out and praise it. There are these agendas against certain films. It is a film which is made of a woman martyr by a woman director. Also, it is made by somebody who doesn't belong to a conventional setup."
'Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi' is widely lauded for the performance of the actors. It is also praised for its massive set pieces, amazing action and breathtaking sets and costumes. The message of a strong woman taking the lead is really empowering for the viewers.
Apart from Kangana Ranaut the film also stars Atul Kulkarni, Suresh Oberoi, Danny Demzongpa, Jisshu Sengupta and Ankita Lokhande, in pivotal roles. It is produced by Kamal Jain and Zee Studios and is currently doing well at the Box office.
