Sanjay Dutt's biopic titled Sanju has been creating waves ever since the film was announced. The Rajkumar Hirani directorial brings Sanjay Dutt's life to the big screen and the trailer of the film has been garnering immense praise. Ranbir Kapoor, who plays Dutt on screen, seems to have hit the nail on the head with his portrayal of the actor. In an exclusive interview to Republic TV, Ranbir opened up about what the film means to him.

Ranbir Kapoor said, "'Sanju', the film, is quite rare. It comes once in a lifetime in every actor's life. When you get a part like this, you know trying to portray Sanjay Dutt on screen in a Rajkumar Hirani film. There is a sense of responsibility that you feel."

Ever since pictures of Ranbir Kapoor from the sets of Sanju emerged, fans have been taken aback by the actor's striking resemblance to Sanjay Dutt. However, needless to say, this hasn't come easy and entailed immense hard work, "Thankfully, we had a good six to eight months of prep, we had amazing people, the crew who was making in makeup and prosthetics, hair and costume, and we had a lot of dedicated time towards it. So I don't know how it happened, it just that everybody just wanted to get it right", Ranbir said.

Further talking about the challenges in getting his look in the film right, Ranbir said, "There were a lot of disappointments. There were a lot of times I used to sit in the chair for 10 hours and then look at myself in the mirror or in the camera and it was a complete disaster. I was looking like my father sometimes, I was looking like some other actor sometimes. But because Sanju sir is such an iconic person, he is somebody who is still so popular and loved, we had to get the look somewhere close to him, not exactly like him but at least close to him and at the same time it should not seem like it is a mockery or like we are trying to mimic him. So the responsibility was high, the belief level was really high. It is an important film for me at a very important juncture in my life so we all did the best to our capabilities."

Produced by Vinod Chopra Films and Rajkumar Hirani Films in association with Fox Star Studios. 'Sanju' is all set to release on June 29, 2018.
