Salman Khan's lawyer Hastimal Saraswat has confirmed to Republic TV that a plea has been filed seeking a suspension of the 5-year sentence handed to the actor by a Jodhpur court in the 1998 Blackbuck poaching case. Salman's bail plea is to be heard on Friday after he spent the intervening night in Jodhpur Central Jail.

Asked whether the appeal had been kept ready beforehand, Saraswat said "We always prepared appeal in each case because any judgment can come. It is a practice."

"There is no gunshot report in the postmortem and FSL report is also negative. There are so many grounds that the case if farce and fabricated and we will try to make the court understand this", Sarawsat said, opposing the prosecution's submissions in the case.

Saraswat also rejected the notion that Salman Khan is a repeat offender, something that is stated in the judgment.

"Till the highest courts don't take a decision, how can we say this is an offence. There are courts above this. This is a magistrate's order."

Saraswat also denied that 5-star food was delivered to Salman Khan on Thursday night.

Meanwhile, just one night into his 5-year jail sentence after being convicted in the 1998 Blackbuck poaching case, rules have already been flouted and plans are already afoot to free Salman Khan.

Far from the Channa Daal and Cabbage that was on the menu at Jodhpur Central Jail where Salman was on Thursday lodged as Kaidi No. 106, 5-star food was allegedly delivered for the Bollywood star. He was also allowed to wear his own clothes instead of the standard issue in jail.

The final arguments in the case were completed in the Jodhpur court on March 28 after which the judgment was reserved till April 5.

All the accused actors were present in the court for the pronouncement of the verdict after arriving in Jodhpur on Wednesday. There were massive security arrangements at the court for a number of reasons, including a known gangster's threat to shoot Salman Khan.
