2019 has been a year of interesting biopics. After 'Accidental Prime Minister' to 'Thackeray', Eros Now and Benchmark Pictures have collaborated to produce a 10-part biopic web series on the life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Titled 'Modi', the project will be helmed by filmmaker Umesh Shukla, who has previously directed critically acclaimed ventures like 'Oh My God' and '102 Not Out'. It is all set to premiere on Eros Now in April.

Ahead of the same, Republic TV got in touch with the cast of the upcoming biopic web-series, who opened up about their experience working on the project. The series will feature the Indian Prime Minister's life in 3 phases. While actor Mahesh Thakur will portray the current PM, Ashish Sharma will represent him in his youth and Faizal Khan will bring on screen his boyhood days.

While having a conversation with Republic TV, renowned television actor Ashish Sharma revealed that he will be portraying a span of 20 years in PM Modi's life, from his mid 20's to mid-'40s. Talking about how he landed in the project, Ashish said, "Umesh Sir was looking for an actor who may not look like PM Modi but share similar ideology so that he can bring out the genuine thought process. So fortunately we met and he liked my sincerity, our thought process matched and he selected me for the role."

Giving out details about his role in the web-series, he said, "I am prominently portraying a span of 20 years, from his mid 20's to mid-'40s. I think that is the journey we are talking about in the series because that phase of his life is not documented much. You don't have much reference point to that. There are no videos anywhere and there are very few photographs in the public domain. Not much is known about that phase."

"However, that phase is very interesting. Even if we ignore the fact that it was Modi Ji's life, and look at it just as a life of an individual, it is still very interesting.  You have to be interesting as an individual to have such a journey in life." he added.

Further explaining his character in the film, Ashish continued saying, "There are several facades of his life and personality which our viewers will be able to watch. You might not have imagined Modi ji in a Sardar's outfit, but there are several such things which people don't know about him. He was an expert in disguise, he was street smart, had an amazing sense of humour, he is sarcastic and made friends easily."

"He is a very good orator because he had that quality of connecting to people. So basically, I am portraying his life before coming into active politics, which accordingly molded his personality. And how he crosses his hurdles as a Prime Minister from his previous experiences.

Giving out details on how the team researched about that phase of the life of the Indian Prime Minister and what viewers can expect to see in the series, he said, "Since not much documentation of that phase of PM Modi's life was available, we had to deconstruct that phase. Today the groomed image we see in the public domain is Modi ji after years of experience in active politics if we deconstruct that phase, the raw previous self of him is what I will be recreating in the series."

"We had our research material in place and connected with his close associates from that time, people he grew up with, his childhood friends, his family members, school teachers, the village he grew up in, his interactions with the locals there, made us understand a lot about him. We came to know about several  incidents from his life that we have portrayed in the upcoming venture. Those are the real accounts of him, which people are not much aware of." he further stated.

The actor also further elaborated on how he had tried to capture the instinctive reactions of the Indian Prime Minister to make his role more convincing. He enacted how PM Modi's expressions change with his feelings which brought out the in-depth analysis of the team did to portray the character.
