‘For Them Congress Is India, India Is Congress’: ‘Tashkent Files’ Director Vivek Agnihotri Lashes Out At ‘Bollywood Wing’ Of The Party After Celebrities Urge Citizens To ‘vote Wisely’

After 600 theatre artists including Naseeruddin Shah, Amol Palekar and others signed a letter urging citizens to vote out the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), more artistes of the film industry featured in a video asking people to 'vote wisely' in the upcoming general elections. Vivek Agnihotri lashed out at the video, calling the celebrities the ‘Bollywood wing’ of Congress and that for them whenever the party loses, the 'constitution is in danger.'

In a video shared by the Congress on Tuesday, several well-known artistes of the country like Kalki Koechlin, Swara Bhasker, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Amole Gupte, Varun Grover, Renuka Shahane, Nandita Das, Vikramaditya Motwane, Vishal Dadlani, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Sayani Gupta, and others urged the people to 'vote wisely' and ‘save democracy’ as they took a dig at the ruling party over various issues. 

Vivek was not pleased and lashed out at them on Twitter. He wrote, "The real problem with these soldiers of Congress is that if Congress doesn’t win they feel there are no elections. When Congress loses, constitution is in danger. For them Congress is India. India is Congress. For them victory of common people is danger to democracy."

He also took a dig at the celebs by saying that for them India was between Bandra and Versova in Mumbai and that those who didn’t know anything about the constitution were talking about the fear of the end of the constitution. He added that those who don’t vote were talking about saving the democracy. 

He even took a dig at the ‘Vote Karo, Magar Soch Ke’ tagline and presented his version, 'Film ka ticket khareedo, magar soch samajh ke'. (Buy film tickets wisely)

Vivek is also in the news for the controversy over his film ‘Tashkent Files’, based on the mysterious death of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. The director received a legal notice from Shatri's grandsons Vibhakar and Diwakar Shastri to stop the release of the film. The director said he knew the ‘top family’, referring to the Gandhis, were behind the change of heart for Shastris, since they had earlier supported the film.
