Be it the role of an ideal daughter-in-law in 'Hum Saath Saath Hai', or a woman on a murder spree in 'Andhadhun', the actress has portrayed every character with grace. 
Her acting career started when she was just mere 14 years old in Dev Anand's ‘Hum Naujawan’ and, since then, Tabu has repeatedly starred in iconic, offbeat movies.

Here are the top five off-beat films that one simply cannot get enough of! 

1.'Filhaal' (2002) 

Meghna Gulzar's project 'Filhaal' was way ahead of its time. The film starred Tabu, Sushmita Sen, Sanjay Suri and Palash Sen in pivotal roles, and revolved aroun the controversial subject of 'surrogacy' back then. The storyline of the film is that when Tabu (Rewa) realises that she cannot have a baby, her best friend Sushmita Sen (Sia) steps in to be a surrogate mother. 'Filhaal' is a roller coaster ride, that takes the audience on a journey of joy, sadness, jealousy and insecurity.

2.'Maqbool' (2003) 

Vishal Bharadwaj's 'Maqbool' is a crime based tragedy that is based on Shakespeare's 'Macbeth'. The film stars Irrfan Khan, Tabu and Masumeh Makhija in pivotal roles, set in the backdrop of Mumbai underworld. In the film, Irrfan (Maqbool) is the right hand of the underworld don Pankaj Kapoor (Jahangir Khan, while Tabu plays the role of 'Lady Macbeth' in the film. 

3.'Namesake'(2006) 

'The Namesake' is an Indian-American drama directed by Mira Nair and was Tabu' first Hollywood film. It was based on the novel 'Namesake' by Jhumpa Lahiri. The film featured Tabu, Irrfan Khan, Kal Penn and Sahira Nair in pivotal roles. In the film, Tabu plays the role of Ashima Ganguly, initially depicted as a mother trying to get her son back to appreciate Indian culture. Although, when her husband dies early, she takes her family back and tries to keep them together. The film was lauded by the audience and American critics too.

4.'Chandni Bar'(2001) 

The film is a Hindi crime film directed by Madhur Bhandarkar. It depicts the gritty underworld in Mumbai, which includes prostitution. In the film, Tabu plays the role of Mumtaz who is forced to leave her village and move to Mumbai after her parents are killed in a communal riot. And, hence she is forced to dance and flirt in a bar in order to ends meet. 

4.'Maachis' (1996) 

The film is a 1996 Indian Hindi period film directed by Gulzar. The film revolves around Jaswant who is arrested and tortured for a crime that he did not commit. On seeing his friend's condition, Kripal joins an extremist group in order to bring down the government.
