Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has been in the news lately pertaining to his citizenship. However, no sooner than the actor revealed that he has a Canadian passport, things became worse.

In the midst of being criticized, Akshay Kumar found some relief in his 'Special 26' co-star Anupam Kher who tweeted in his support asking him to stop explaining himself to everyone about his contribution to this country. And now responding to Kher in a heartfelt tweet, the actor thanked Kher for supporting him and for being more of a friend than a colleague.

A few days back, Akshay had also received support from Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, who tweeted his support to the actor saying: “Dear Akshay Kumarji, no one can question your patriotism. Your motivation to our armed forces personnel and the way you generated funds for our martyrs through Bharat Ke Veer programme will remain an example for every patriotic Indian.”

Meanwhile, Kumar was in news only a few days ago for his "non-political" interview with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. But the hero of films like "Kesari", "Toilet Ek Prem Katha" and "Airlift" which had nationalistic overtones, gave voting a miss on Monday. At a special screening of the film "Blank" on Tuesday, the actor interacted with the media, lauding the movie and the performances of debutantes. However, when the actor was asked why he skipped voting, Akshay simply walked off, saying "Chaliye chaliye (lets go, lets go)."
